As much as The Affair @ The Jupiter Hotel is about the art, cross-pollinating galleries and artists from Portland and beyond, it is about the people. The dynamic forces whom we have to thank for making The Affair, Laurel Gitlen of Small A Projects and Stuart Horodner (formerly visual arts curator at PICA), the passionate gallerists, the critics and writers, the buyers, the artists, all contribute to making The Affair about far more than the purchase of art.

Like large juried exhibitions, The Affair provides the ground for the consideration of direction, movement, of the individual statement and dominant gambits; the critical mass of the attendant culturally engaged, the petri dish in which the conversation flourishes.These are some of the faces photographer Serena Davidson captured at last year’s Affair.
