Ready, Steady, Dig: PDX Furniture Design

Heads up that next week, Design Department (1315 SE 9th)—Ben Hufford and Eric Black—an architecture/industrial design firm, is opening its close-in, street-level SE space for a month-long furniture show by some of Portland’s brightest design minds with an opening, Friday, February 27 at 6 PM.

Unless you know someone who knows someone, you won’t see this work anywhere else. Many of the most innovative design/build studios don’t have their work in any showrooms and ShowPDX, Portland’s homegrown furniture design expo, happens only once every other year.

In addition to work from Design District (their UTR Table is a favorite), the show will feature work by the four women (Stephanie Beamer, Crystal Ellis, Hillary Petrie, and Julie Scheu who met in architecture school) of egg collective, Sara Huston, Jason Krzmarzick, Brian Gualtieri’s Study Hall, Jennifer Freudenberger, Merkled (Kari Merkl), and Studio Gorm (Wonhee Jeong and John Arndt) who will have work in an upcoming show at the Museum of Contemporary Craft.
