Love Lisa Kuhnhausen & Project Chaboo

This is not a fashion story, although it starts with a Patrik Rzepski design.Well, no, it starts with a project you’re going to be hearing more about, gets inspired by Rzepski and ends up being one of those meeting points between design (industrial, interior, arch.) and fashion.

Interior designer Lisa Kuhnhausen is one of the designers participating in Portland-based furniture designer Ken Tomita’s Project Chaboo. A chabu dai is the low Japanese table around which the family sits. Tomita created the project to connect with (and create connections between) furniture designers, artists, illustrators, and photographers. They are gathering around Tomita’s “chaboo” a bamboo bench/table that nods to the chabu dai in its design and now in concept as well as Tomita has invited almost 40 designers and artists to create their own take on the chaboo. The results are photographed with the designer/artists by great Portland photographers and will be exhibited (photo and chaboo) in March and on the web sometime soon. More on that in near future.
We love Kuhnhausen’s process, some of which is captured here on Tomita’s blog and can’t wait to see what comes of it. Interior designer, Kuhnhausen has deconstructed the Plain White T-shirt down to its core essence, the thread, and is exploring ways for it to interact with the chaboo.
