Leanne Marshall on Project Runway: Go PDX!

Go Leanne! Portland-based designer Leanne Marshall on Project Runway Season 5!

We knew Project Runway was nosing around Portland, putting out feelers to some of our favorite designers. But did you know that Portland’s own Leanne Marshall (Leanimal) is joining Project Runway Season Five? We were tipped off by this piece in the Seattle PI (because to be honest, we haven’t been checking the Bravo site daily in anticipation of the announcement), but look! It’s totally official. And because we’re used to seeing photos of Leanne backstage calmly working on a garment at the last minute before her model walks out on the runway, 1.) she looks especially gorgeous here, and 2.) she’ll be PERFECT for the stressy, time-limited projects on Project. But oh, we’re worried about the drama. Leanne seems very un-drama. And what if some catty witch tries to take her out? Because look at the other Runwayers…yes, they were coached to look that way, but don’t better than half of them look like they want to eat your head off? Other interesting PR5 news is that apparently Diane Von Furstenberg, Francisco Costa (Calvin Klein) and Cynthia Rowley will be coming in to judge along with Sandra Bernhard (love), Apolo Ohno (why?), Brooke Shields, LL Cool J (”Momma said knock you out”), RuPaul (ohmygod), and whatever Rachel Zoe. So that should be fun-ish.

Anyway, Go Leanne!

Too bad she sucks and is an emberrasment to Portland. She sounds like a dopey space cadet and her designs are garbage.

For serious. And then people wonder why people mock Portland and its citizens. The culture of incipid B-grade designers from Portland is tired.

Hi Leanne. I’m a Project Runway fan now that you’re part of the show. Excellent design on last weeks show. Loved the Olympics look too. I’m pulling for you! It looks like they don’t give you a serger to work with! What are they thinking!

she’s a disgrace to portland. she always looks so sad and pissed off.. like she’s secretly judging everyone around her likes she is so much better than everyone.

I saw her at whole foods over the weekend. she looks pissed off, mad a dopey.

i think it’s pretty ridiculous and mean to judge her in a personal fashion based upon 10 seconds of visual interaction at a grocery store. i also think it’s a huge waste of time to be so critical of someone in such a harsh fashion on a message board. she’s a person, doing what she enjoys, and expressing a negative opinion in a very rude way is just incredibly mean and shows poor character as a human being. watch the show, enjoy it, and if you live in portland and aren’t routing for her, then fine, but don’t put her down on a message board. it’s really disheartening to read

The fact of the matter is that Portlanders can’t take the heat. They have no survival mechanisms or the thick skin of a big city. If someone is going to represent the city, then they should make an effort. We all know, but won’t admit, that she will be cut. You honestly and sincerely believe they will select someone from here?

    RTD2,
You don’t really know anything, you assume, so the only thing to admit is your own pessimism. Portlanders are many things; they are varied in taste, style, and as you’ve so wonderfully demonstrated, intelligence. To judge an entire population like you’ve done is just ignorant. To answer you’re question, yes I do think they will and so do many other non-haters. In my opinion Leanne is making a great effort on the show and would get my vote to represent Portland in a heartbeat if any vote was ever tallied (which it hasn’t, you’ve put this responsibility on her unfairly). Sounds to me like you and you’re fellow jealous, self-loathing posters to this site could use some time away from your computers. Get outside, play in the sun! I hear California is nice, maybe it could be a permanent move.

I think some of you may be misinterpreting Leanne. I know her from the shop and she is quite shy in person. She is also super sweet and delightful to work with. I think her shyness may be coming off in the wrong way on tv.

i think that editing and producing are important factors in that argument. while there are reality shows wherein drama amongst participants is exploited. one of the best things about project runway is that this aspect plays a much smaller role. if it were being done by mtv, we’d be seeing all kinds of extra nitty gritties. we would never see what little there is of the Blayne’s tolerable side. but they do have to do some spinning. its part of the job. but if theyve got someone like leeanne who isnt terribly extroverted, and doesnt give them much to work with, like i said. they do still have to spin it somehow, and lets face it. having her just look sweet and demure all the time is no good for ratings. verdad?

Originally from portland; live in jacksonville currently, was so excited to see a designer from portland. I was even more excited to see her win 2 challenges in a row! She is clearly a favorite to show at fashion week. It really accentuates the stupidity of some the earlier pejorative comments on this message board. And.. she’s also pretty hot, without trying. Go leanne!

oh, leanne. regardless of your designs (which, so far, convince me you just may win), i turn into a flittery-eyelashed retard when you’re on my screen. do this infatuated goon proud. do our glorious pdx proud. your design exemplifies our amazing, unique aesthetic. show the world how awesome we are. winter is coming up - rock the layers, scarves, and sense of oldschool, fashion rebellion we cherish so dearly. <3
