Ms. Wood, Geisha kimono by Alicia Wood

I am wearing this to your next affair, perhaps Sunday’s brunch or cocktails under the stars. Not to be kept under wraps in the home (as we tend to want to make it “robe”), the kimono follows the smoking jacket out into the world.  Yes, it has a naive, Poiret-esque cultural tourist quality to it, like a Pound poem or a Picasso riff on an African mask. But then I’m thinking about growing into my eccentric, globe-trotting, Iris Barrel Apfel future. There is no time like the present.

This particular kimono is by Portland-based Seattle transplant, Alicia Wood who traffics in all manner of kimono under the Ms. Wood label on etsy.
