Ebb and flow. We forget sometimes in our celebrations of new and shiny that good boutiques come and go. R.I.P. Denwave and Yes, for example.

So it is that the longevity and adaptability of Jo Carter’s Pearl District boutique Physical Element (1124 NW Lovejoy) bears remark. As the name suggests, Carter launched Physical Element five years ago as Portland’s first yoga and fitnesswear boutique. Over time, the stylish and savvy Carter added fashion to the mix with forward-thinking European and Japanese lines (the statement-making Cop.Copine and Moyuru knitwear from Japan top the list), several that you’ll find nowhere else in Portland. And for her five-year anniversary, Carter completely reinvents the Element as a fashion boutique, adding more killer lines like Casch Copenhagen and IKKS from Paris. If you haven’t been in, now’s the time.

Celebrate the launch of the new Physical Element this evening, Friday, April 25 from 7-9 PM with a fashion showcase at 7:30 PM with the latest from international labels Cop.Copine, Moyuru, and Deca as well as collections by local designers Renee Armstrong, Wendi Martin, Magali Corzo and Elizabeth Rohloff. You’ll get a sneak peek at the Fall 2008 collections from Casch Copenhagen, IKKS France and Lilian. And to top it off, get 10% off all purchases at the event.
