Two of our favorite people, artist Grace Luebke and writer and musician Heather Larimer, have been talking about a project they’ve been working on at WK12 for UNICEF for some time now. The TAP Project begins this Sunday to coincide with World Water Week, March 16-22.
“The idea is to ask restaurant customers to donate $1.00 for the tap water they would normally get for free. All the
money raised is then used to supply children in third world countries with safe, clean drinking water,” says Luebke. UNICEF says that every dollar buys 40 days of clean drinking water for a child and that lack of clean and accessible drinking water is the second largest worldwide killer of children under five.
Twelve cities across the country are participating in TAP 2008 and more than 45 restaurants are participating in Portland alone. Lucky for us we have the world’s best tap water (in our considered opinion). So no matter where you eat out next week, you’ll be given the chance to step up and throw down.
