Brides need good design (and art), too…or perhaps we should say, more than ever. Not only is it one of most-documented moments of a gal’s life, it’s a day on which many a woman has lost her design-sensible head and gone in for more of a New Jersey aesthetic than she’d ever buy into in Real Life. Not only that, it’s a day when the young couple enjoys a tidal wave of objects with which to populate the home. “Dear god, let design come into play on this day,” should be a bridal chant as well as action item.
To this end, several things
One, a reminder about The English Dept. Bridal Collection fashion show at Maison on February 13 at 7 PM featuring local designers’ lines and one-of-a-kinds as well as a well-curated selection of modern dresses.
Next day, Flutter (3948 N Mississippi) and Frocky Jack Morgan, take Valentine’s Day, February 14 from 5-9 PM to showcase “blushing brides in tulle and silk serving ’sweets for the sweet.’” Julia Barbee of Frocky Jack Morgan is the go-to designer for subversively beautiful fabric sculptures masquerading as dresses in her signature wabi sabi rococo style.
Finally, forty Pearl District businesses with a bridal bent (from stationers to florists to planners) are doing the Perfectly Pearl Modern Bridal Event to benefit Central Portland Families Saturday, March 1, 11-4 at the Ecotrust Building (721 NW 9th).
