One For The Boys: Couture Cat Ties

Cat Biggar’s collaborative project pairs Portland-made ties with Portland-based artists who handpaint their designs on her ties

An alternative look for those loveliest of nooses, men’s ties, comes from Cat Biggar of Couture Cat Designs. She began making the ties as a way to, “allow other artists to show their work on my garments. I’m using six artists, including graphic artists, graffiti artists, and people who usually do screenprinting,” Biggar says. “But these are all handpainted.”
Biggar, who has done time in the corporate apparel world after fashion school in London and Savannah, moved to Portland a couple of years ago. She does custom women’s clothing and one-of-a-kind pieces, so the singular nature of the handpainted piece fits right in.

The ties are available at the Couture Cat Design Studio (1511 SE 45th) and on the web at the Couture Cat website and on Etsy.
