As only OFFICE PDX (2204 NE Alberta) could do it, LET HER PRESS celebrates the women of letterpress with an exhibition of work by 10 female US letterpress artists. But that’s not all; for this show, they’ve each created exclusive, limited edition 11 x 17 prints priced perfectly for holiday giving from $50 to $125 (edition of 5).

The show opens tonight, Thursday, November 29 with a reception from 7-9 PM and runs through the end of January. You’ll find work by artists from the following studios with a major showing of those from PDX including: Egg Press, HammerPress, Lark Press, Little Oranges, Oblation Papers, Studio Olivine, Satsuma Press, Subject to Change, Trace Paper, Yee Haw Industries.

Polli Succulent Earrings

The last time stainless steel met my skin, it drew blood. But somehow it seems I’ve nothing to fear from these laser-cut anodized gold stainless steel Succulent Earrings from Australia’s Polli at Relish. Deliciously organic…and benign.

Legna Pod Votive Quad by jefdesigns

As grey days grow shorter, we begin to seek sources of light. These Legna Pod Votives by jefdesigns reference seaglass and forest with a modern linearity we find irresistable. Little sisters to jefdesigns Legna lamps (you can see them on the walls at Crema on the Eastside), designer Joe Futschik hand-fabricates the bottomless votives (available in single, triple, and quad configurations) of frosted acrylic and wood veneer.

Find other jefdesigns work (wall pieces and lamps) at 2modern and designpublic. The Legna Pod Votives are only at Futschik’s etsy shop.

Northwest Film and Video Festival 2007

It’s been 34 years now that the NW Film Center has done an annual festival shining the spotlight on film and video made in the Great Northwest. It’s so good that this year’s theme is “Dedicated to the Dedicated,” honoring not only the final products, as the festival has always done, but the makers and blood, sweat, and tears behind every minute of film.

Tonight, Friday, November 9, is the opening night of the Northwest Film & Video Festival. Things kick off at 7 PM with the first Shorts Program at the Whitsell Auditorium in the Portland Art Museum ($7 General Admission). After the screening the opening night party goes down at 9 PM at The Cleaners at the Ace Hotel with DJs Linger & Quiet (Genevieve Dellinger and Matthew Quiet). Admission to the party is $5 or FREE if you attend the screening and bring your ticket stub. (Thrifty!)

Kari Merkl makes art and object in Portland. You’ve seen her furniture at ShowPDX, the MoMA store carries her beautiful, glowing resin cube lights. We were taken with these sofas (cold rolled steel, euro-ply wood, and wool) she recently did for Portland’s Porteon.
