Last night I was one of the many people amid the flurry of models, stylist, designers, and probably the most popular of guests: a newborn and toddler, that set up behind the curtain for PFW’s Collections show. I was there to help the boys of Pinkham Millinery prepare and dress, but without a doubt, I took great pleasure in watching the scene that was unfolding around me. Having worked together on many past shows, the designers involved in The Collections are an impressive lot. Together with their favored stylists and models it is apparent they are old pros, working together with a soothing calm and meticulous attention to detail.
Highlights:
Catching the procession of Kate Towers and Holly Stalder behind Kate’s first model, holding up off the floor, her fabulously long train. All the way until the very last second before she stepped onto the runway.
Watching one model step off the runway, instantly remove her heels, and with a furious pitch, launch each towards the next model in line. I’m happy to report the shoes landed perfectly in her hands, and she slapped them on without, literally, a second to spare.
Having Chris Cone come in to announce that they were giving crane rides to anyone who was interested. Unfortunately we were about to start our first run-through. I’d kill for a crane ride…
Seeing each designer precisely arrange each look exactly how they envisioned it. A tug here, a cinch there- and pulling it all together perfectly, with the hopes of creating a little magic.
