Before and after the runway shows and parties, Portland Fashion Week is about the creation, manufacture, buying and selling of great clothes. TALKING FASHION, ultra’s series of panel discussions addresses this, as does the first event of Portland Fashion Week, hosted by a new magazine that is focused on just that bottom line. Portland Fashion Week kicks off this Friday, October 19 with Boutiques and Designers, a panel discussion presented by The Changing Room magazine in conjunction with Portland Fashion Week at 12:00 noon at the Art Institute of Portland (1122 NW Davis) in the Pearl District.
Boutiques and Designers brings together industry veterans to talk about both what boutiques need from designers (size runs, quality control, being on the regular buying schedule) and common issues that independent designers face in working with boutiques (communication, merchandising, returns). Who’s coming to the party? Jo Carter, owner of Physical Element; Giovanna Parolari, owner of Una; Elizabeth Dye, owner of The English Dept and designer of Elizabeth Dye; and designers Liza Rietz, Rebecca Pearcy (Queen Bee Creations), and Alice Dobson (Sofada).
Admission is free.
