The Portland Fashion Week official schedule is now live on the website, and it looks good. From Friday, October 19 through Wednesday, October 24 each night’s fashion show will feature work by half-dozen or so lines from Portland and beyond, lines like Portland’s Emily Katz, Idom, Rachel Mara, Anna Cohen, Souchi and more. We’re particularly interested in seeing the full lines of Seattle’s alula and Modi Soondarotok’s Idom (PDX). Tickets go on sale on the website tomorrow (Saturday) and are discounted 10% for this first weekend of ticket sales.
We’re thrilled to note that the schedule includes on Monday night “The Collections” which means that Portland Fashion Week will truly represent the sensational breadth of design talent in Portland. You’ll recall that The Collections has been a series of fashion shows self-produced by Portland-based designers including Elizabeth Dye (also co-owner of The English Dept boutique), Liza Rietz, Linea, Emily Ryan, and the designers who own Seaplane, Holly Stalder and Kate Towers.
It’s all happening at 5555 N Channel. Not an address you recognize? It’s the Cascade Shipyard on the beautiful Willamette River. The shipyard!
I’ll be in town doing exclusive coverage of the whole event - so exciting!
It’s unfortunate “The Collections” organizers basically sold-out to the pfw people. I considered The Collections show last year a higher calibre of design talent that set itself apart from the lesser talent put on by pfw. It’s also unfortunate The Collections organizers of the past will be affiliated with some of the questionable characters that promote pfw.
Amy, I could not disagree with you more about The Collections “selling out.” I do agree that the designers who showed in The Collections are many of Portland’s best designers.
What PFW did last year was to put on a professionally produced set of shows. What is happening this year is that most of Portland’s best designers, including new names like Idom, and stalwarts like Elizabeth Dye, will be showing in those shows. Imagine if Raf Simons refused to have Jil Sander show in Milan because of Versace’s history of glitzy, over-the-top looks for mafia wives (recent collections excluded).
What we want is a Fashion Week that represents the best of Portland fashion. With the exception of Adam Arnold, who will not be showing this year, I believe this Fashion Week does just that.
Re: your comment about “questionable characters,” I ask you to consider that these gentlemen are putting a tremendous amount of work and money into making a very good thing happen for Portland’s fashion community.
