
In about one hour, we’ll be able to officially say, “It’s on.” Today is Day One of Portland Institute for Contemporary Art’s Time-Based Art Festival. At noon-thirty today TBA:07 Artistic Director Mark Russell, Performing Arts Program Director Erin Boberg Doughton, and Visual Arts Program Director Kristan Kennedy give a fest overview while the Rinde Eckert kickoff is in Pioneer Square at 6:30 PM for On the Great Migration of Excellent Birds featuring a guest chorus of all of your friends and neighbors who can sing.

What makes a t-shirt design great? How can a design stand out in a field of a thousand? If you’re the kind of person that gets overwhelmed in a video store, you can thank your lucky stars that you’re not one of the judge for Uniqlo’s UT Grand Prix 2008 although it would be fun to sit on a panel with artist Yayoi Kusama (dots!), art director Kashiwa Sato and (oh my god) architect Tadao Ando! Okay, they don’t really have to dig through the thousand…you get to do that as Uniqlo posts the best on their website and visitors vote. But the judges will select the thirty designs that will go into production and the one 3 million yen winner (Run to your currency converters!) Deadline’s September 15. Portland represent.
