A show of abbreviation. Abbreviation as a strategy for dressing in summer in answer to designer Genevieve Dellinger’s self-imposed challenge, “How do we show clothes at a time of year when no one wants to wear clothes?” Abbreviation in the number of looks: between Dellinger and accessories/jewelry designer Hazel Cox (with guest designer Adam Arnold) they’ve boiled the show down to nine looks. This then is an instance where we can pretty much guarantee, based on past experience, that short will be very sweet. Denwave’s Summertime Menswear Fashion Show is tomorrow night, July 14 at 7 PM at Denwave (811 E Burnside) with a reception following.

Cox with a “heavy metal” influence, is doing, “script necklaces, clip-on utility bags, key fobs, and lightweight summer accessories” in wood, slate, brass, and steel. She observes that mens accessories are usually so utilitarian. She does make accessories that perform a function (like her multipurpose “utility bag”), but her recent work has included conceptual pieces that hint at purpose (with authoritative clasps),  but fabulously won’t hold your pants up, clip to your keys, or hold your cash.

Love how there is a lady sitting spread eagle between two chairs. That’s real classy… Anyone thought to put some makeup on her? No, this is Portland where women prefer to wear burlap sacks.
