One spreads it out over several days, the other folds it all into one. Two of Portland’s most vibrant shopping streets have weekend events worth noting. NW 23rd’s 10th Annual Sidewalk Sale begins Friday and continues through Sunday with a focus on sales and shopping although some of the cafes offer specials as well. Some hot spots will include Blush Beauty Bar, where Deborah Haynes will have a raft of deals, Souchi, where past-season styles of luxe cashmere separates will be 30-80% off(!) and The Bee And Thistle, where you’ll find markdowns of 70-80% on accessibly priced on-trend fashion.
On N Mississippi on Saturday, July 14, it’s the 2007 Mississippi Avenue Street Fair. From 10 AM to 7 PM, the street will be closed to traffic from Fremont to Skidmore and full of live music and entertainment, food, a fashion show, local arts and crafts, a giant community yard sale. Meanwhile, Mississippi favorites new and old from Amalee and Pin-Me, through Blue and Phlox and up to Black Wagon, Flutter, and Sameunderneath will be throwing open their doors and spilling out onto the sidewalks. Speaking of Black Wagon (the boutique for children who are 72% cooler than their parents were at that age), at noon there’s a children’s parade (BYO children with wagon) …Julius from Small Paul (Paul Frank) will be there, will you?
