New Favorite
If we told you that you’d see our current very most favorite designed object at a shop in Downtown’s West End, you’d likely head to Canoe (1136 SW Alder). We’d say, “Good guess.” But you’d be wrong.
Currently, our very most favorite designed object is made out of polyethylene, comes in a rainbow of bright colors, and is found in Portland at Finnegan’s Toys (922 SW Yamhill) for around $30. We’re perhaps behind the times because the Bilibo, by Swiss designer Alex Hochstrasser has been winning awards and acclaim since it was introduced in 2001.
It is a shell, island, bucket, rocking chair, stool, bucket, helmet (with eye-holes), water toy, sand toy, you name it. And it’s the most simple and elegant and open-ended toy we’ve ever seen. Love.
