Tonight OFFICE (2204 NE Alberta) hosts a community forum on the future of NE Alberta spurred by presentations by students from the University of Oregon School of Architecture and Allied Arts. Students from five studios will present models, renderings, visions, and concepts for Alberta as launchpoints for conversation. According to OFFICE, “Concepts will summarize theories on the use, history, social, and political environment and how it’s affected the built environment of past, present, and future.” Portland architecture writer Brian Libby rings in with his take as well, and the whole thing goes down from 7-9 PM (free).

One of the exceptional things about Portland is that these kinds of meta-level conversations go on (and that they begin at the student level! These are the people who will be shaping the future of the city). It’s no accident that Portland is as livable and lovable as it is. Many minds, many dollars, ambitious vision and the will to activate it made it happen are continuing to make it happen. All we can say is that if the players involved in this discussion have anything to say about it, the picture for NE Alberta will likely look very good indeed. Kudos to OFFICE for presenting things like this, and thanks.
