A little something you can talk about with your fashion friends this morning as WWD.com reports that at the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) awards last night, Oscar de la Renta tied with Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez for the Womenswear Designer of the Year. The first tie in CFDA history, it’s an interesting Old Lion and Young Gun story as well as a disappointing endorsement of safety and commercial appeal over vision for American design. Then again, it’s just a recognition of the realities of the business of fashion in America.
Among the many other awards of the night, the Swarovski Award for emerging talent was taken home by Phillip Lim in Womenswear, David Neville and Marcus Wainwright for Rag and Bone in Menswear, and Jessie Randall for Loeffler Randall in accessories.
