Among the most coveted items at Relish (433 NW 10th) are these vessels by California ceramic artist Sara Paloma. These serene groupings of wheelthrown vases are both lyrical in their curving shapes and ironic in the way that the voluminous vase that will likely never hold a stem narrows to its tiny, restrictive opening. The work references some of the more streamlined pieces designed by Swedish art ceramicist Carl-Harry Stålhane in its simplified, elegant forms, but the massing of forms makes them something else altogether: crowd or city or cloud, tooth, or stone. Love.
