Pretty in Pink: Takashi Iwasaki

Takashi Iwasaki at Motel Gallery

ultra loves Winnipeg artist Takashi Iwasaki who has three pieces in Motel Gallery’s “White Light” show which opened last night. Go see his dynamic little abstract canvases in which the brush stroke is actually embroidery thread. Then check out his website to see his killer paintings and drawings. Yes, that is a gold lamé scarf.

I have just discovered an article on you in selvedge magasine, and am delighted by your crisp, clean, delicate expressions of off-beat lines and patches of colour – extending embroidery in a different way. Wonderful stuff. I have a Japanese student staying with me, and she has been translating the names of the pieces her way……. I have done English embroidery all my life, and am always looking for innovative ways to express it…. just LOVE your way…… congratulations and thank you
