This evening you can bounce back and forth between the emerging and the terribly established with opportunities to see work by some of America’s greatest living artists and new blood from the US and abroad.
At Motel Gallery, find the delightful paradox of a group show with the word “white” in the title featuring artists who use color exuberantly. This of course hinges on the Art 101 concept that while white is yes, the absence of color, white light is the sum of all colors. “White Light” at Motel Gallery (Located on Northwest Couch Street between 5th & 6th Avenues) opening with a reception tonight, features work by more than a dozen emerging artists from the US, Canada, and Japan who embrace color with an optimistic zeal.
And at Elizabeth Leach Gallery (417 NW 9th) like father, like son…there are prints by Robert Rauschenberg (in company of prints by Sol Lewitt, Robert Motherwell, Richard Serra) in “Multiples” and “Daily Life” photos by Chris Rauschenberg, for a not-to-be-missed show.
Lastly, if you haven’t, go see Uli Beutter’s meditation on the absence of color in her video installation “White” at Everett Street Lofts (625 NW Everett #104).
