Color, keyholes, and kimono-sleeves were the story for women at Adam Arnold’s spring 07 show on Friday night at Design Within Reach. Arnold’s detail of choice, the keyholes turned up for men and women (especially in an interesting twisted clover front shell in grey). For women, skirts were full and longer save a sweet sheath in a wheat tweed. The neutrals were wheat and navy in denim too refined to be called denim (as always, his fabrics are exquisite), a pleated blouson Arnold calls a “bag blouse” in a navy silk, and a smart, navy art-student smock dress. And the color was exuberant in oranges like persimmon, poppy, and a color he called “thousand island” like the dressing. Menswear was outstanding, with perfect trim suits, a great casual zip-front canvas jacket and pants, and clever and colorful sweaters.
