Glory, glory, halelujah. Did you say Cabaret, Liza? You heard right. Portland Center Stage announced its upcoming season last night with a little do at the Armory. And they’re doing Cabaret! Highlights of the evening were the band playing crime jazz and a funny, insider-y Double-O-Send Up filmlet (starring a giant blockhead stand-in for artistic director, Chris Coleman…picture Jack of Jack-in-the-Box with a box instead of a ball for a head with Coleman’s face pasted on each surface of the cube…doing a James Bond impersonation) directed by Josh Oakhurst. We were so excited by the Cabaret news, we hardly heard the rest of the season lineup, but it included a play by our beloved Steve Martin, one by the bard, and “The Beard of Avon.”
