It’s a pretty interesting time for craft in Portland. Not only is the Contemporary Craft Museum & Gallery getting a new, highly visible space on the NW Park Blocks, but the Oregon College of Art & Craft, in its 100th year, is getting set for a significant expansion. And the architect they tapped to do the first phase of the project, is Massachusetts-based Charles Rose Architects Inc. Rose will do a library and drawing/painting/photography studio for the college. The very cool (and award-winning) Atlantic Center for the Arts was Rose’s first major commission (post-Harvard)and has led him down a path not unlike our Brad Cloepfil, nationally, or Randy Higgins, locally, focusing on spaces for the visual and performing arts.

This will be something on which to keep an eye. For more on Rose, Princeton Architectural Press has just published the monograph, Charles Rose, Architect.
