bSide6

This future jewel of Lower East Burnside, bSide6, won an AIA award for architects Works Partnership Architecture, before the spade ever hit the dirt. Work on this mixed-use building—ground floor retail with a handful of small work studios in the floors above—is scheduled to begin any day now. It’s a hopeful note that Works Partnership Architecture is the firm that’s been considering models for economically sustainable artist workspaces, working with both city agencies and private developers. We applaud a view to incorporating the needs of our vibrant culture-workers into design and planning. But our first reaction to the project was admittedly less intellectual and more visceral aesthetic thrill. Delicious.
