As golf attire is “encouraged” for Holocene’s Annual Mini-Golf Invitational, may we suggest that you lean toward the Dean Martin school of dressing for the links. The MGI is a two-day mini-golf extravaganza where the tournament isn’t for the players but the designers of holes that are sculpture, parody, performance art, and a lot of fun. Thirteen design teams compete for accolades and prizes while the rest of us get to play through.
Among the mini-golf holes are performance-based holes like “Fancy” by Lightbox Studios and a Fleshtone hole (hmm, what an unfortunate word combination), dangerous holes like the WK12 “Blowhole” promising a quick-return hole and golfing on a surfboard, plus virtual holes from Alphonse Swinehart and Second Story Design. Mini-golf will be combined with skee-ball (Nemo), fusball/pinball (Elise Bartow and Daryl Freier) and a take on the labyrinth game (The Minotards)…the little box where you negotiate the ball through the maze without letting it drop through one of the holes…to be played by you and friends.
It goes down at Holocene (1001 SE Morrison) next Tuesday, October 24 from 9 PM to 2 AM and Wednesday, October 25, from 2 PM to 2 AM, with the awards announced at 10 PM. $6.
