It’s been ten years since Designer & President Rebecca Pearcy started Queen Bee Creations, making vinyl bags and accessories from her bedroom in Olympia. Test your Queen Bee memory: do you remember Wonder Woman wallets? Belts embedded with Loteria cards? Star Truckers? The Queen Bee aesthetic has evolved from its indie roots to a more sophisticated, clean look without forgetting its past: Queen Bee still sells the record bags we remember from the early days. Today the Queen Bee motifs are equal parts serene organic (ginko leaves and cherry blossom branches), witty (the cassette tape), modern (honeycomb), and just plain cute (birdies!). Along the way, Pearcy raised the bar high for production quality.
And the business has evolved as well as the designs. Pearcy now has a partner, Redd Moon, and seven employees at “the hive,” the inner-Eastside workshop where Queen Bee bags are built. And she’s built a parallel business, ChickPea for “moms, pops, and tots.” But the core model remains the same: goods are made locally and distributed online (buyolympia.com) and at independent boutiques throughout the U.S. and internationally.
To celebrate their first decade in business, Queen Bee is offering a 10% off sale through October 31. Use the coupon code, “birthday” at the website, when you check out.
