Seaplane was emptied of racks and crowded to the gills as is usual for a fashion event here, but this time there was or wasn’t a runway. We’d been told to expect an “installation” and reception for Jess Beebe’s line Linea. We were greeted by a white Vespa in the middle of the floor and a brown leather chair in the window. The three models moved through the crowd, posed and moved between chair and scooter.

Jess Beebe showed nine looks that for day nodded to the 60s. Her elbow-length sleeves worn with gloves, the shift dresses were trim and smart. We loved an olive minidress (that this season could be called a tunic, it was worn with leggings here) with a scooped neck and elbow-length sleeves was worn over an ivory crepe blouse gathered at neck and sleeve, the crispness of the mod dress playing off the romance of the blouse. Her black and cream houndstooth plaid boatneck shift dress was likewise smashing. As in the past, we appreciate Linea details on these dresses like pockets slit into seams both vertical and horizontal.

Again, with elbow-length sleeves, a deep green plaid top cut on the bias with princess sleeves worn over black gauchos was mod meets modern (gloves, yes!). Beebe also showed a smart little cropped grey wool peacoat with a matching grey wool cap modeled after a cross between an aviator cap and your mom’s swim cap: perfect under-the-helmet headgear for the modern girl on the go. Beebe used a jumper strategy in a number of looks, including a bronze taffeta evening dress worn over a pale grey mesh top.

The super fab look of the night was a departure from all the others and really leaning toward late 60s or a 70s caftan look: a semi-transparent, georgette dress that felt like an enormous scarf with oversized brown paisley growing out of its hem. Worn over leggings and with a matching scarf, it was very Pat Cleveland and made us want to invite you all to an at-home so we’d have a perfect occasion to wear it.
