In a late entry to our coverage of The Collections series of fashion shows, witness “Cloak” by Genevieve Dellinger and Hazel Cox of Denwave (811 E Burnside). In their first year showing with The Collections designers, Dellinger and Cox eschewed runway and even showing their work (Dellinger’s apparel and Cox’ jewelry) in favor of creating a window installation.

“Cloak,” then is a delicate hooded cutaway vest of herringboned vellum or tissue paper with a tail that trail off to the roll of paper leaning against the wall. The piece confounds definitions of cloak, both the noun (this is not a cloak) and the verb (the semi-transparent material used, tissue, is incapable of concealing). Minimally detailed with trailing thread, string, leather epaulets that could very well have been repurposed, having lived former lives in a shoe, the “cloak” is finished with a patinaed chain in the back.See “Cloak” on display at Denwave for a moment or two longer.
