Take Me To The River
one the first day of TBA, sculptor and performance artist David Eckard, one of Portland’s finest, takes to the Willamette for “Float”
Tonight at dusk (7:45 or 8 PM) beneath the Hawthorne bridge on the Willamette River, sculptor and performance artist David Eckard will “Float.” He’ll be some fifteen feet above the water on a lace and fire-bedecked platform mounted on four curved legs, and if you’re on the west bank, you’ll have the best chance to hear his amplified text-sound performance. This is the latest in a series of Eckard sculptures that serve as performance machines or props that range from the baroque (Tournament) to the industrial (Scribe). Richard Speer agreed with us that Eckard was an important inclusion in this year’s Oregon Biennial. See this piece and know why.
