As conceptual as you wanna be…

In the still unconstructed space at Burnside-bridge-hugging Disjecta, beside the wide windows facing west, a fashion show with model after model in little white dresses…it’s not a touring Chloe show but The Little White Dress Show, coming up on Thursday, June 8. Holly Stalder and Kathryn Towers of Seaplane have invited a number of Portland-based designers to interpret the Little White Dress, giving them license to get as conceptual as they please. You know how ultra loves that space where art and fashion meet, the overlap between the practical (you cover your body with it) and the ephemeral (just what is it that makes a garment compelling? is it the same quality that makes a painting compelling? what do we call “it”?). So we’re looking forward to this one. And while themed shows in art tend to worry us, this is a loose enough armature to give the designers all the latitude in the world while making this show of shows cohesive. Trust the following stellar list of confirmed designers to deliver something sublime: Adam Arnold, Liza Rietz, Emily Ryan, Holly Stalder, Kathryn Towers, a broken spoke, Linea, Frocky Jack Morgan, Saki Jane, Elspeth Vance, church + state, Bonnie Heart Clyde, Elizabeth Dye, Decora, Precious, Pinkham Millinery, and Birds of Prey. Anticipate.
WHAT TO DO NOW?
