Some changes are developing on the West End; Portland’s West End that is. That little nook around 12th and W Burnside is becoming less tucked away and more of a clear cut destination. MASU has settled in and continues to serve up sushi and cocktails with style. Soon the Ace Hotel will finally offer its sexy rooms and staff to Portland, and I hear there might be either retail spaces or a fabulous place to dine on the premises. I hope they find room for both! In addition, I have heard rumors of a chocolatier coming to the area.

But now to what I know for sure: Odessa will be setting up shop in the neighborhood at the beginning of July. Odessa, the gorgeous boutique on NW 11th is moving into the space where Jolie Shoes currently resides. Susan Tompkins, the proprietor of Odessa, explained that while she loves the light-filled, spacious feel of her location on NW 11th, her new home off of Burnside will be a noted change of pace. It should remind one of the NY boutique experience- long and narrow spaces that one discovers by chance.
While we are excited for Susan, we are sad to see Jolie Shoes close up shop. I recommend heading down to Jolie before the doors close on May 7. Every pair of shoes is at least 60% off, and many up to 80%! On my recent visit the selection was still ample. I spotted an incredible pair of Italian boots that started at $600 and were marked down to $200. Score.
