Tiffany & Co. translates the clean, simple, elegant vision of one of America’s more noteworthy architectural voices into metal, wood, and stone for the body

We’ve been waiting to see Frank Gehry’s work for Tiffany & Co. And while the Collection was introduced in Beverly Hills on March 25, we won’t see it in Portland for a number of months. As might be expected, his choice of materials is as interesting as the design, with brown-banded agate and chachalong, acacia, ebony, and pernambuco woods contrasted with lots of shiny shiny silver and black gold.
Bits of the collection are less successful, silver squiggles end up looking bad 80s, but his agate cuff in the Torque line will make you cry. His abstract Fish motif will be legendary, and his cufflinks from the Axis line are just the right amount of design for a man’s cuff.
The Gehry bit on the Tiffany & Co. website is a beautiful sneak peek at the line. There’s also an 8 minute film we’ve yet to watch.
Tiffany & Co. has another winner (Elsa, Paloma, Frank). Available in the Portland Tiffany & Co. on August 15, 2006.
