Jason Lee Parry’s upcoming show at Sugar Gallery makes a petite wave
Ah yes, a little pre-opening controversy for photographer Jason Lee Parry, whose photography show Street Wave at Sugar Gallery (420 SW Washington) opens this First Thursday, April 6 with a reception from 6-9 PM. Seems the gallery received a raving email about the image Sugar is using to promote the show. The emailer complained about Parry’s (and Sugar’s) exploitation of the naked body, the sin (using, accidentally we’ll assume, the cool neologism, “porography”) and the, “decaying sick immoral society I see and many, many people today see in the reality of the evils of our siciety [sic] and it is clear from hell.” Etceteras.
Clearly she hasn’t visited the Portland Art Museum lately, where she’ll find more nudity and questionable behaviour crammed into allegorical French frou-frou painting than in a Nan Goldin pic. Parry continues in the grand tradition.
We understand that Sugar Gallery is printing up the email on a t-shirt.
