Luxe Life

If one tiny shred of the what can only be described as the deep authenticity and hip-but-comfortable vibe of the Driftwood Room in the hotel formerly known as Mallory (729 SW 15th) is retained or expanded upon in the hotel’s new incarnation, we will be thrilled.

The glory of the Mallory, deserves the $10 million worth of love that the Aspen Group is lavishing on it for its pre-second-act makeover. We have high hopes for Aspen, having seen the magic it worked on the star of SW Broadway, the Hotel Lucia (formerly the Imperial) and Seattle’s Vance.

Scheduled to open in May, the newly-christened Hotel deLuxe promises an old Hollywood vibe. Designer David Hill is doing deco topped with nearly 400 photographs from Hollywood films ranging from 1930 to 1950.

Besides all the expected luxe boutique hotel amenities, the Hotel deLuxe will feature a Screening Room that threatens to show films by homegrown PDX filmmakers. Why all the cinematic leanings? Aspen principal, Gordon Sondland=film aficionado. He’s Board Chair of the Oregon Film and Video Office.
