Happy New Year, beware the Eyelets of March, etceteras.
Against our better judgement, we expect a number of you will be unable to resist three impending trends for Spring 06. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.
Eyelet: It’s been stewing for the past couple of springs, but in 06 it’s ready to bloom thanks primarily to Domenico and Stefano (Dolce & Gabbana) and Phoebe Philo (Chloe). We imagine we’ll be seeing more than a few of you in fabric better left to christening dresses, curtains and coverlets in “country” homes. Editors will try to tell you that you can mix-and-match and sex it up a bit, (or in editor-parlance, make it “rock n’ roll”) but they will be wrong.
Ballet Flats: Just because Sophia Coppola wants to give the illusion that she has thick ankles by wearing ballet flats does not mean that they are a good idea for the rest of us.

Empire Waists: We’ll blame this one on Gisele Bundchen in that Dior thing at last year’s Academy Awards. There is a reason that empire waist dresses are commonly called, “baby doll dresses.” Okay, if your bra size is AA and especially if you’re nine-years-old.
WHAT TO DO NOW?
