Tony Takitani
Beautiful and haunting, a film set against the backdrop of fashion obsession and a closet full of size 7 clothes…
The Hollywood Theatre is on a roll with another film in which fashion plays a supporting role…and we don’t mean a period costume drama. Tony Takitani opens Friday, December 16. Based on a short novel by Haruki Murakami, Tony Takitani is an award-winning Japanese film concerning itself with emotional distance and connection against a backdrop of fascination with high fashion. Takitani is an unemotional technical illustrator who begins to come alive when he falls for and eventually marries his client Eiko who is obsessed with designer clothes. Here’s the kicker: “When he asks her to economize, the consequences are tragic.” In mourning, Takitani places an ad in the paper searching for a woman who is a perfect Size 7.
