We are pleased to report that a clever local designer is recycling cool open-knit vintage sweaters (those we saw were in a wash of ivory and beige) into very current styles like boleros and shrugs embellished with various trims.
It’s a look we like: the layering of light jerseys and knits over more jersey or blouses. The cropped thing isn’t for every body, but when it works it’s a dynamic look. For the rest of us, there are always little sweater vests as well. A solid over a print tones down the visual attack of the print and the textural variations of tone on tone be very interesting. Yum.
Go to Magpie (520 SW 9th) to see pieces from Dani Juarez’ line Blackheart. Reconstructed is not always Raggedy Anne.
Oh, and while at Magpie check out the Holster jacket by Toronto indie design house, Preloved. It’s a cool jacket for men constructed out of three pair of vintage khaki pants. The collar is made from the waistband. It’s a great concept.
WHAT TO DO NOW?
