Look East

Very exciting developments in the visual arts realm, and these aren’t your headliners. There are not one but two new galleries by interesting curators/artists opening this month.

hi paul!

First up, Homeland (926 SE 34th) is the new gallery opening September 29th with a reception at 7 PM. This new project is headed up by Paul Middendorf–who was curator for Disjecta and as Manifest Artistry (with Mary Mattingly) has curated and shown as part of Art Basel, Miami as well as -scope Hamptons–and artist Paige Saez who’s shown as part of Core Sample, at PDX Contemporary Art, Disjecta, Pacific Switchboard, Cooley Gallery, and more.

Their inaugural show will feature work by Charles Moss, Zak Margolis (yeah!), and Amy Steel.

And Jennifer Armbrust notes on PORT that Laurel Gitlen, late the gallery director for Savage Art Resources is opening a new gallery, Small A Projects (1430 SE 3rd)in the Savage space under the Hawthorne bridge.

The first show, ALL I WANT IS EVERYTHING, opens September 30th with artists from around the country focusing on heavy metal and rock and roll. Small A will hold a housewarming party on First Friday, October 7th, 6-8 PM.
