Countdown to Time Based Art
In its third year, the Portland Institute for Contemporary Arts’ Time Based Art Festival is on the cusp of big changes with outgoing Executive Director Kristy Edmunds heading for Australia and new guest artistic director for TBA, Mark Russell, formerly of PS 122 in New York, on the way in. This year will see returning faces like Daniel Roumain, Sarah Rudinoff, Allen Johnson, and Meow Meow, a heavy dose of homegrown talent including the M.O.S.T. and Morgan Currie-curated video and film, plus superstar Paul D. Miller aka DJ Spooky, and audience faves Wally Cardona and Lone Twin.
TBA is performance art, dance, music, video, monologue, installation, and performance that falls through the categorical cracks. It is challenging and inspiring: annual not-to-be-missed pilgrimage to the fount of possibility.
And we don’t need to tell you that every night at The Works at the corner of NW 18th and Northrop, there will be cabaret performance, dancing, food, drinks, &c beginning at 10 PM.
It all begins Wednesday with a free show of STREB’s gravity defying “Wild Blue Yonder” in Pioneer Square. Go to PICA’s TBA website to plan your week+. TBA.
