Fall Art Party Preview

We were talking with Tito Chowdhury, board member of the Portland Art Museum’s Young At Art, at a recent fashion event about the upcoming opening of the Museums’s Center for Modern and Contemporary Arts in the remodeled North Wing. YAA is going to throw a huge bash–Tito has already booked two of Portland’s best DJs–for Saturday October 1, from 10 PM to 2 AM. Those of us who are thrilled that the Museum will have a Modern and Contemporary Center will be there to celebrate. It’s PAM’s big chance to draw in those of us for whom Impressionism and collections of silver are less than the ne plus ultra of art. We have high hopes for Center for MCMA as well as the YAA bash. Who better to ring in the contemporary than the young (-ish). The party will be free for Young At Art members, only $10 for the rest of us.

But that’s not all. There are two other soirees that will likely go down in the books, both art-related. You won’t want to miss the Opening Gala and Preview Party of the Affair @ the Jupiter Hotel that benefits the Portland Art Museum Center for Modern and Contemporary Art. Former PICA visual arts curator, Stuart Horodner’s Affair is as important to the wider cultural landscape of Portland as it is to Portland’s visual arts arena. And there’s no better place to be glamorous than in the courtyard of the Jupiter. The Preview Gala runs from 6-9 PM with an artists’ party to follow featuring the Deep Throats, Barr, and DJ P Disco.

Lastly and mostly, we are terribly looking forward to the Portland Institute for Contemporary Art’s revival of its legendary DADA Ball. Glory be, let us for one night out-Anna Italian Vogue’s Anna Piaggi, bless her blue-streaked hair. Let us put the Hugo back in Ball. If you ever needed permission to costume rather than dress, we issue you a visual poetic license.

It’s harvest time. What are you going to wear?
